Devon gas leak sparks huge 750-metre cordon as urgent warning issued | UK | News

“This is a safety message to all local businesses and residents nearby. We have set up a 750 metre safety cordon. The gas board and Police are in attendance to ensure a co-ordinated and safe approach.

“Advice is to keep all windows and doors closed until further notice.”

A police spokesperson told the same paper: “Police were called at around 9.55am today, 24 October, to reports of a gas leak on Eastern Wood Road, Langage Business Park, Plympton.

“The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are managing the incident while police are on the scene assisting with road closures, local evacuations and cordons.

“A 350m cordon has been put in place from the northern end of the railway line to the southern end of the A38.

“Members of the public from surrounding non-residential buildings and units are currently being evacuated as a precaution.

“The suspected leak has now been isolated so we expect cordons to be taken down shortly. We are advising people to avoid the area for the time being.”

A local resident told PlymouthLive: “It has just been a constant stream of sirens for about an hour.

“There are so many police in the Co-op car park and it is closed to all but emergency vehicles.

“Holland Road is also closed and it looks as if the majority of businesses have been evacuated.

“Lots of people have gone into the pub.”
