Shirley Ballas uses £9.50 moisturiser from Amazon

Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas is back on our screens, looking as stunning as ever. The 64-year-old dance icon, renowned globally for her professional dancing prowess, doesn’t rely on pricey products to maintain her youthful skin.

In fact, one of her skincare essentials is a bargain buy from Amazon costing less than £10.

The dance legend swears by Astral Intensive Moisturiser Original, which also happens to be a favourite of 78-year-old Dame Joanna Lumley. A whopping 500ml tub of this moisturiser can be snapped up for just £9.50 on Amazon – an absolute steal.

In a chat with Woman and Home, Shirley revealed: “My beauty routine isn’t full of expensive lotions and potions. I’ve stopped using cleansing wipes because they’re apparently not good for your skin and very bad for the planet, so I now use Garnier Micellar Water to take off my makeup.”

“I never go to bed without using moisturiser,” she continues, “and over the last five years I’ve mostly used Liz Earle products. They’re great. I also use Nivea and Astral cream, and any kind of moisturising mask for my hands, feet and face. When you get older, your hands and neck are the first things to age.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Suitable for all skin types, the Astral moisturiser features a ‘rich’ formula designed to deeply penetrate your skin’s epidermis. Infused with lanolin and petroleum jelly to protect the skin’s barrier, it has been hailed by skincare enthusiasts as a ‘must-have’ for dry skin, particularly during the autumn and winter months.

It’s a versatile marvel; one jar can seamlessly fit into both your morning and nighttime beauty regimens. But it doesnt stop at just nourishing the face. This magic cream can hydrate your entire body, and it even has a second life as an effective makeup remover.

The cream is currently boasting a stellar 4.7 star rating on Amazon, based on more than 4,790 reviews, so its hardly surprising that the £9 moisturiser has amassed a large following of dedicated users, claiming it keeps their skin ‘wrinkle free’ and makes them ‘look younger’.

A particularly glowing testimonial stated: “I’ve used this since I was five-years-old and now 67. People say I look much younger, this I put it down to good genes and Astral Cream Moisturiser. For people with dry skin and wrinkles it’s definitely worth a try. It’s okay moisturiser soaking in straightaway but I prefer a slower process so you know it’s there all day and night. If those pesky wrinkles under your chin show up, pop a tiny smear on, brilliant.”

Another delighted user enthused: “I have used Astral since my twenties I’m 71 now and have really good skin, wrinkle free, morning and night, always apply first before makeup, good for dry skin, especially hands and feet. Makes me laugh when I see all the expensive creams and lotions advertised, it’s Astral for me.”

One shopper enthused, “My mother used to use it and I’ve used since I was a child. People tell me I look so much younger than my age. At 51-years-old I’m starting to get my first wrinkles. Not many people can say that at my age. Still the best product on the market.”

However, some shoppers think the texture of the £9 cream is quite ‘greasy’ for their skin, with a review stating, “I found it very greasy, sits on your skin. Not for me.”

Contrastingly, another customer raved about the Astral cream, commenting, “Amazing product and so reasonably priced in a 500ml jar. I love everything about it. Absorbs well. Softens skin. Is light but highly hydrating. Never again am I wasting my hard earned money on expensive face or hand creams.

While Shirley has not disclosed which Nivea cream she favours, a likely candidate is the celebrated Nivea Creme All Purpose Body Cream for face, hands and body (200ml), cherished by many from an early age, retailing at £5.99 for a 200ml pot at Boots or £10.65 via Amazon.

Another moisturiser boasting devoted users through the years is the Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Moisture Cream 75ml, which as of now is available at Boots for a discounted £31.20, down from its regular price of £39.

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are also happening now – with thousands of discounts across tech, home and more from October 8 – October 9.
