The best country for retired British expats to move to has ‘cheapest cost of living’ | Travel News | Travel
Dream of spending the golden years under the sun? A beautiful country with beaches, culture and fantastic cuisine could be the ideal destination.
According to the property experts at PropertyGuides.com, the best country in the world to retire is Turkey.
Factors surveyed included healthcare, green space, crime rate and cost of living per month. Turkey beat out other popular destinations such as Spain and Greece.
A spokesperson said: “An exceptionally cheap place to live, particularly for those looking to live along the Mediterranean, British retirees will find that their UK pension goes two to three times as long as in Spain or France.
“The country also has an exceptionally low crime rate and the cheapest cost of living of all the European countries analysed.
“The Turquoise Coast, Turkish Riviera, is also particularly alluring – not to mention the warmth of the climate and the country’s exceptionally friendly people.”
Popular spots on the Turkish Riviera include the holiday resorts of Marmaris, Bodrum, Fethiye and Alanya.
Christopher Nye, chief editor at Property Guides, said: “For those looking for a new adventure a little further from home, a person’s age and lifestyle will significantly influence their choice of where to live in the world.
“Retirees, or those looking to retire in the not-so-distant future, will emphasise factors that are in line with their future plans and needs. They’ll value locations with strong healthcare systems and places with a low cost of living.”
Britons will need to check where they can move as since Brexit, British people can only stay in the EU for 90 out of every 180 days.
