Travel experts at Campsites.co.uk revealed the most desired autumn destinations for 2023 for those who want to enjoy a tranquil stay and visit some of the UK’s most charming villages.
According to the study, the most “captivating destinations to discover during this enchanting time of year” are Cumbria and Lake District, Cornwall, Derbyshire and Peak District, New Forest and Norfolk.
The Lake District is “a haven for boaters and keen walkers” where visitors “can experience the picturesque landscapes as it transforms into an autumn wonderland”.
The experts recommended: “They can experience canoeing on Windermere and enjoy the serenity of the vibrant colours and fallen leaves.”
Hotels.com recently named the 10 most charming villages in the Lake District, and the picturesque town of Ambleside came first, perfect for “lake cruises and scenic walks”.
Ambleside is a “fun place to wander and get lost in the mazes of narrow roads lined with cottages and old farm buildings” and one of the most beautiful buildings is St Mary’s church.
The travel experts added: “The town’s distinctive Victorian stone buildings house an array of shops, tea rooms and pubs to explore. Take a short walk to Stock Ghyll Force to see the soft mists of the 20-metre waterfall, or hike further to enjoy the beautiful views from atop Loughrigg Fell.”
Other beautiful villages in the Lake District are Hawkshead, a “car-free village near Grizedale Forest”, Kendal, home of the famous Mint Cake, and Bowness-on-Windermere, the top lakeside destination in Cumbria.
